THE 2008 OLDIES CAME FROM AN EARLY 12 POINT DEFICIT TO COMFORTABLY DEFEAT THE YOUNGIES BY 50 POINTS TO 34.

The power and strength of the Oldies finally wore down the Youngies who after starting like startled rabbits slowly seccumbed to the power play of the ageless Oldies.

The youngies made the fatal mistake of trying to go through the Oldies defencive line instead of throwing the pill around and wearing down the tired old legs.

A ploy that had catasterophic results.

Unfortunately another ERGON special ( a power failure in the Emu Park township) sent the oval and the town into darkness right after the referee blew fulltime - and as a result the fundraising came to an abrupt halt - with the crowd dispersing, the bar and kiosk forced to close early.

It is estimated that we lost between $400.00 to $500.00 in additional fundraising for the Cancer Fund.

The Oldies -v- Youngies Cancer Challenge Rugby League Match and Family fun day is a fundraising day for the Capricorn Branch of the Central Queensland Cancer Fund

The Oldies versus Youngies day has been sponsored by many local businesses but none more than the Emu Park Lions Club, the Pine Beach Hotel, and our local members of Parliament, Ms Kirsten Livermore, Member for Capricornia, and the Paul Hoolihan, Member for Keppel.

The family fun day involves the Squeak Roberts memorial Iron Man Race, kids races which are now sponsored by Tim McCall of Dynamic Satellite Surveys, guys versus girls challenge soccer match and the main event, being the Oldies_v_ Youngies Cancer Challenge Rugby league match.

The game is played at the Bicentennial Oval Emu Park on the first Saturday after the Sydney RL Grand Final. This site is also featured on the emu park online website, a promotional site for the township of Emu Park and the surrounding areas.

The next Oldies v Youngies is on the first saturday after the NRL Grand final.
